A two-day Bhadraj Temple Tourism Fair, dedicated to Lord Bhadraj, concluded today with devotees treading to the temple situated around 5 km from Mussoorie.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Balram or Bhadraj, elder brother of Lord Krishna. Devotees from Jaunsar, Himachal Pradesh, Dehradun and Vikasnagar began converging on the temple, situated 7,000 feet and offered milk at the idol of the deity and held prayers.
The Bhadraj fair follows immediately after the Independence Day every year.
The Bhadraj Mandir Samiti made elaborate arrangements for the devotees on the temple premises. Cabinet Minister Nav Prabhat had also visited the temple yesterday. According to local historians, the Bhadraj is also the place where the first surveyors arrived before the creation of hill town of Mussoorie. President of the samiti Rajesh Nautiyal presented a memorandum to the minister and said the fair be declared a tourism temple fair. He demanded the upgrade of the trek route up to the temple. Fairs like this were important to preserve the culture of the region, he said.
