Haridwar, August 17
A statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, which was inaugurated on August 13 at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, was demolished by some anti-social elements late last night.
Passersby saw the condition of the statue this morning and informed the police and members of the Swatantra Sangram Uttradhikari Organisation, which had funded and put up the statue adjacent to the National Highway.
Aggrieved organisation members, local people and social activists lodged a complaint at the local police station and with the Municipal Corporation Town Commissioner Vipra Trivedi.
Trivedi reached the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park to take stock of the situation.
Former legislator Ambrish Kumar said such incidents would not be tolerated in the future and warned to take the protest route if the culprits were not arrested soon. Labour leader Murali Manohar demanded a probe in this regard. He urged SSP Rajeev Swarup to ensure speedy investigation and arrest of the culprits behind the heinous act.
