The dilapidated Bhankarpur-Mubarikpur road has exposed claims of providing better amenities in Dera Bassi. The potholed road is causing immense inconvenience to the commuters due to a bumpy ride on the stretch.

“The problem worsens during the rainy season, making the road accident-prone. We fail to understand as to why the government is not repairing the road. The claims of providing funds for the repair work remained confined to paper only,” said Mohan Singh, a commuter.

The residents alleged that the department concerned never invited tenders for recarpeting the road. “Many a times, potholes lead to accidents,” said Harbans Singh, a resident of Mubarikpur.

“The poor road often damages vehicles,” said Sonu, a driver, adding that a majority of the commuters avoid taking the road.

Jaswinder Singh Mann, Superintending Engineer, PWD, said he would send a team to check the status of the road.
