Bharat Gaurav Award for Dr Garg

Dr Rakesh Kumar Garg, Professor of Forensic Science in the Department of Forensic Science, Punjabi University, Patiala, has been recently conferred with a prestigious ‘Bharat Gaurav Award’ along with the Certificate of Excellence by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi, 2016 by Dr Bhishma Narain Singh, Former Governor of Tamil Naidu and Assam, due to his remarkable contribution in the field of forensic science.

He has served Punjabi University for over 35 years and was twice the Head of Department and remained as member on various bodies of the university, including the syndics and senator.

Dr Garg had been a post-doctoral fellow and visiting scientist and professor in foreign universities. He has made significant researches in specialised areas such as fingerprints, forensic biology and serology, including DNA, forensic anthropology, forensic toxicology and questioned documents examination etc.

It is worth mentioning that the past recipients

 of Bharat Gaurav Award included Mother Teresa; former vice-president BD Jatti; Governors like Justice M Fathima Beevi, General GV Krishna Rao, MM Jacob; Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal; Chief Minister of Goa Digamber Kamat; former Air Chief Marshal NC Suri, film stars such as Sunil Dutt, Pran, Shammi Kapoor; educationists such as Parimal Trivedi; VC Gujarat University, HA Ranganath; VC Bangalore University, Narender Jadhav; cricketer Sunil Gavaskar; Olympic silver medallist in hockey Dhanraj Pillay to name a few.

In addition to these, Dr Garg has awards/fellowships to his name like, fellowship from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, won scholarship from New York Microscopical Society ,USA (Bernard Friedman Memorial workshops) , and Bursary from International Association of Forensic Sciences ,Canada. 

Dr Rakesh Kumar Garg’s name is included in the “Marquis who’s who” because of his contribution in the subject.
