Kot Dharmu village of Mansa district is still awaiting a visit by SAD Rajya Sabha MP Balwinder Singh Bhundar.
Neither he came nor did any of his tall announcements that were made to change the face of village that falls in the Sardulgarh Assembly segment of Mansa district.
Despite commanding an upper hand in its vote share here, the SAD has not made any visible impact of its presence in terms of any special facilities in the village in the past several years.
The village has no drainage system. Dirty water is collected in the village pond and overflows into adjoining areas during rain.
Children studying in higher secondary classes have to travel at least 15 km to attend school. Panchayat members confirm that doctors are “rarely present” in the village dispensary forcing them to travel to Mansa.
Ground water has been declared unfit. Nambardar Gurjant Singh, said, “Even the drinking water reaching our home is contaminated many a time.”
Road passing through the Suvidha centre (under construction), grain market, power grid and the police station, connecting the main road, is lying incomplete for the past many years.
A number of villagers here have died of cancer, while six more are still fighting with the disease.
Former sarpanch Gurjant Singh, said, “At least10 people have died of cancer in the past one and a half years in our village whereas six more are battling for their life. None of these patients had got any help from the state government. Our village is far away from development, while life here is hell for villagers living in ward no 8 and 9. Even the smell of drinking water is nauseating. MP Bhundar has never entered our village after adopting it.”
