Thieves tried to break into the strongroom of the Union Bank of India near Pehowa Chowk on Kurukshetra Road last night.

Bank’s assistant manager Arun Chauhan said: “The peon informed me about the incident. The directions of CCTV cameras were changed and they (thieves) had made a hole in the bathroom’s wall to enter the bank. However, the thieves could not enter the strongroom.”

The higher bank authorities have been informed and a complaint lodged in this connection, Chauhan said.

Forensic experts were called to lift fingerprints. Sources said no security guard was on duty last night.

Pehowa SHO Narender Kumar said CCTV footage of the bank was being examined.”
