Biggest timber market of dist at Khasi Kalan soon

District’s biggest timber market is being constructed at Khasi Kalan village. The under construction timber market is 10-km from Ludhiana city on Tajpur Road.
Narinder Pal Singh Tiwana said, “The grain market and timber market were being constructed in an area of 32.12 acre at Khasi Kalan village. We have auctioned plots for 55 shops.”
Gagandeep Singh, secretary, Market Committee, Ludhiana said, “The plots auctioned for shops are of two sizes. There are 21 shops with dimension of 60” X 120” and 34 shops with dimension of 50”X 90”. The process of handing over the possession started today.”
Two auction platforms will be constructed in 2.37 acres and 2.61 acres. Two saw mills also be installed here. For construction of the timber market an amount of Rs 5.5 crore was being spent.
At present, the roads in the market are of bricks. Even the platform has been made up of bricks. For cemented platform and bitumen roads to be constructed in future, the state government has sent a proposal to the Centre government for funds.
At present, the city timber market near Gill Road will be later shifted here.
When asked as by what time it will be functional he said, “Grain market is already functioning. However, work of timber market is still going on. Today, we handed over the possession of auctioned plots. But the process is still going on as some more facilities were required. The timber market will be made functional once all the work completes.”
