BJP workers today held a demonstration at the District Magistrate’s office against the delay in the construction of a flyover at the ISBT and poor condition of roads in the city. They said dilapidated roads had made commuting a Herculean task for people.
The protesters, led by BJP Mahanagar president Umesh Agarwal, gathered at the Mahanagar office and took out a rally in support of their demands. The protest rally passed through Lansdowne Chowk, Buddha Chowk, Hospital Chowk, and culminated at the District Collectorate. They shouted slogans against the Congress-led state government.
BJP activists said the state government should take immediate steps to repair broken roads in the different areas of the city. “Nothing has been done to clean drains which cause waterlogging during rainy days. The slow construction work at the flyover at ISBT results in traffic jam,” they said, adding that the under construction flyover had missed deadlines on several occasions after the foundation stone was laid in 2013. They also sought deployment of additional police personnel to streamline the traffic at the ISBT crossing.
BJP Mahanagar president Umesh Agarwal expressed concern over rising dengue cases. He said the district administration should start a cleanliness drive in the different wards of the city. The protesters submitted a memorandum, meant for Chief Minister Harish Rawat, to District Magistrate Ravinath Raman.
Shyam Pant, Neetu Valmiki, Shyam Agarwal, Rajendra Singh Dhillon, Vinod, Abhishek Vohra, Rohit Goyal, Raviraj Singh, Sunil, Chandershekhar Sharma, Pawan Tripathi among others were present.
