Body of ‘saint-general’ cremated with full military honours
Haridwar, April 13
Noted 1971 Indo-Pakistan war hero Lt General (retd) Hanut Singh’s last rituals were performed here today at Kankhal cremation ghat on the banks of the holy Ganga in Haridwar.
Hanut Singh was renowned for his bravery, war heroics and also spiritual inclination, popularly known as ‘saint-general’ among his followers.
Full Army and administrative honours were given during the funeral rites of the ‘saint-general,’ with top Army officers, eminent citizens, his followers and local people present at the rites.
Lt General Rajan Bakshi,Commander, Central Command, laid wreath at the body of Hanut Singh, terming him as a valiant soldier ,who not only taught Army persons traits of bravery but also spiritual lessons.
Nephew Nripendra Singh lit the funeral pyre in the presence of Army officials and personnel from Central and Northern Commands.
Nripendra said his uncle since the 80s used to live an ascetic life spending his time at Shiv Balyogi Maharaj Ashram in Dehradun. — TNS
