Bollywood stars fund five girls’ education in Kangra

Bollywood stars Sunil Shetty and Rahul Roy have contributed Rs 1.5 lakh to promote education in rural areas of the district and adopted five students, especially girls, for five years to give them best education.

Col Prakash Rana (retd), adviser to Alpine Public School, Sukha Bagh Baghwar, near Ranital said here today that two old students of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Sunil Shetty and Rahul Roy, handed over a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh to their Lawrence School teacher Sukhvinder Singh, who is now Chairman of Alpine Public School, for educating village children in rural Himachal. Both actors handed over the cheque to Sukhvinder Singh during a three-day cricket event at Sanawar recently, Colonel Rana said.

Colonel Rana said the donation was meant for girl students of poor families who discontinued their studies due to lack of funds.

He said another old student, Mohanbir Singh, who is also from Bollywood, had adopted five children for five years from Alpine Public School and all their expenditure on education and other things would be borne by Mohanbir for their better education.

Colonel Rana said the announcement of adopting five children was made during a function where Bollywood stars Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol and film directors Sohail Khan, Apoorva Lakhia, Rohit Roy and others from Bollywood were also present during this function at Sanawar.

Colonel Rana and Sukhvinder Singh expressed their gratitude to these Bollywood personalities for their contribution towards this great cause and asked students to learn from their example how to respect their teachers and have sympathy for needy people.
