Bomb squad equipment fails to work in DGP’s presence

In a major embarrassment for the Uttarakhand Police, the equipment of its Bomb Disposal and Dog Squad (BDDS) failed to work during a demonstration in the presence of DGP BS Sidhu at the police lines here today. An upset DGP gave the BDDS officials 11 days to improve their equipment.

The bomb detection machine of the BDDS failed to detect a bag of explosives while other machine failed to pick and dispose of the bomb to a safe place when the DGP was inspecting the demonstration. Even the mounted squad failed to perform properly.

The DGP got angry and scolded the officials of the bomb squad and the mounted squad and ordered them to prepare themselves well in the next 11 days.

The DGP said these machines were bought during the Kumbh Mela but were never used again. Now, the department had sent a proposal of Rs 5 crore to buy the latest equipment to equip the force for better functioning, he added.
