A book ‘Siasat da Masiha’ authored by Ujagar Singh on the life of Late Gurmeet Singh, political secretary to former chief minister, Punjab, Beant Singh, was released at a function held at Guru Nanak Bhawan, here today.

Former minister Tej Parkash Singh, Member Parliament Ravneet Singh, former president, Punjabi Sahit Academy, Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill and Khanna MLA Gurkirat Singh released the book.

Gurmeet Singh’s wife Jaspreet Kaur and daughter Navleen Kaur also participated in the ceremony.

Addressing the function Tej Parkash Singh appreciated the initiative taken by Ujagar Singh and said the book provided comprehensive information about the life and services of Gurmeet Singh rendered for all sections of society.

He said Gurmeet was a seasoned politician who dedicated his whole life for the peace, prosperity and development of the state as well as for the welfare of the downtrodden sections of the society.

Ravneet Singh Bittu said Gurmeet Singh had been a close associate of Late Beant Singh right from his student career and remained as a shadow with him even during the dark days of terrorism.

He said he was a mature politician. His contribution towards fighting out terrorism and reestablishment of peace and democratic system in the state would be remembered for all times to come.

Prof Gurbhajan Gill said Ujagar Singh had done a commendable job in writing the book on Gurmeet Singh and highlighted all aspects of his personality. He said Gurmeet Singh had made fruitful efforts for restoring the cultural fairs and sports festivals in the state forgotten during the dark days of terrorism.
