In a first, the Border Security Force personnel celebrated Holi with Pakistan Rangers at the Attari-Wagah joint check post here yesterday.

They showered flower petals instead of colours to mark the occasion. Amritsar DIG Sumer Singh confirmed that this was the first time that the two border guarding forces celebrated the festival of colours together.

The gesture was not only an attempt to give a message of peace at the international border, but also creating an atmosphere of mutual understanding between the two forces.

Rose petals were used instead of colours to spread the message of celebrating the festival in an eco-friendly way avoiding colours infested with harmful chemicals.

“I hope the step initiated by the BSF will go a long way in fostering better relationship and understanding besides creating an atmosphere of peace at the international border,” said Sumer Singh.

The BSF also exchanged pleasantries with Pakistani officials headed by Wing Commander Bilal Ahmad.

The Pakistan Rangers had never celebrated Holi. However, yesterday they took everyone by surprise by showing floral petals on the BSF officials and jawans after the beating the retreat ceremony.
