BSNL to connect 4,099 panchayats through optical fibre in J-K

Under the Digital India programme, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will connect 4,099 gram panchayats through optical fibre in J&K, which will provide high-speed data services and various other services to the villagers.

This was disclosed by Atul Sharma, General Manager, Telecom, BSNL, Jammu, during a press conference today in connection with the week-long celebration of Digital India Week by the Jammu telecom district.

He added that during celebrations, various programmes like exhibition at Trikuta Nagar Exchange Compound, conduct of mela/camp and visit of schoolchildren to BSNL Telephone exchanges were organised. “BSNL, J&K circle, is also planning to introduce 23 wifi hot spots in Jammu, Srinagar and Udhampur towns in the circle, which will provide high-speed data to customers without putting load on the existing mobile phone towers. BSNL, J&K circle, will install 38 more mobile phone towers throughout the state. It is also planning to provide 90,000 mobile connections (30,000 in Jammu) during the current financial year,” the General Manager said. He said BSNL had introduced unlimited free calling during night hours from its landline phones to all landline phones and mobile phones of all service provider’s network with effect from May 1, 2015.
