Showing lack of planning and insight, traffic congestion has become a perennial problem on the Elevated Road. Even today, a long traffic jam was witnessed on the road till Mata Rani Chowk as commuters remained stuck in jam on the choked road.

Traffic jams are witnessed on the Elevated Road several times through the day. Commuters complain that rather than easing the situation, the Elevated Road has rather led to further traffic congestion.

Earlier, people thought it would benefit commuters, but it has become the target of the same problem it was supposed to solve, making the situation worse than before.

“There is no escape. Earlier we used to take the Elevated Road to avoid traffic jam, but now, jams are not just seen on the Elevated Road, but on the road below as well,” a commuter said. Sumit, a commuter, said: “Traffic congestion on the road has become a routine. The administration and the traffic police must work out a solution to resolve the problem, which is getting worse by the day. A middle-aged woman riding pillion said during traffic jam on this road, a five minute drive becomes a 50-minute drive. —TNS
