Moga, June 1
Agriculture Minister Tota Singh today inaugurated a bypass road along the Kingwa water channel on the Ferozepur road here. The bypass will ease congestionin the city.
The minister said the bypass would link Amritsar and Jalandhar roads. “Now, the people coming from Ferozepur side will not have to enter Moga city to go to Amritsar and Jalandhar districts. Similarly, those coming from Amritsar and Jalandhar also need not enter the city to go to Ferozepur or Faridkot,” said Tota.
The road had been constructed at a cost of Rs 8.54 crore, he said. The 5.64-km bypass has been constructed by the roads and bridges wing of the PWD in 14 months.
Another bypass, which will link the city with the Kotkapura road passing through the outer areas behind the Nestle factory, is under consideration. These bypass roads will form a ring road around the city.
The minister said the flyovers being constructed by the National Highway Authority of India in the municipal limits of Moga city was not required after the functioning of these bypass roads.
Making of the flyovers will ruin the business of hundreds of people who are running their establishments here for many decades.
Local businessmen have been demanding not to construct the flyovers and rather promote the bypass ring roads to ease traffic.
