Chandigarh, August 2
A city resident has filed a complaint of overcharging against the contractor of the canteen at the new OPD of the PGI here.
In the complaint addressed to the PGI Director, Atul Arora mentioned that the contractor was fleecing visitors by charging double the price of items served in the canteen. “A cup of tea costs Rs 5 according to the rate list put up in the canteen but the canteen staff charged me Rs 10 for it. A meal is priced at Rs 35 but people are charged Rs 60 for it. This must stop,” Arora said.
He said he filed the complaint so that people coming to the PGI canteen, especially from lower economic strata of the society, do not have to pay extra for food items.
PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said, “There are several committees that look into the functioning of canteens in the PGI. We will conduct checks and if found guilty of overcharging, the contractor will be penalised.” — TNS
