Local residents blamed the National Highways Authority of India and said the incident could have been averted had guard rails or crash barriers damaged during the natural disaster in 2013 been repaired. The department concerned had not shown interest in repairing the road and damaged ramparts on roadsides but was busy constructing sidewalls at places where they were not needed.

The local residents demanded a magisterial inquiry into the matter so that erring officials were punished. Meanwhile, NHAI officials were not available for comments.
