Showing utter insensitivity, a cash van driver left a youngster, who was injured when the van hit him, in the open near a dhaba to die here last night.
The youth, named Kala, a native of UP, died at the dhaba. He was found dead near Noor Dhaba this morning.
As per information, a blue cash van, which was going towards Chandigarh, hit a migrant youth some yards away from the Civil Hospital Khamano at about 10 pm. In the meantime, some persons gathered at the spot. The cash van driver assured them that he would take the injured to the hospital. The driver put the injured in his van and drove off.
However, the van driver drove towards the Chandigarh side and dumped the injured in the open near a dhaba on the outskirts of Khamano. In the morning, a passerby spotted the Kala’s body and informed the police.
The police, on a statement of Darshan Lal, a vegetable vendor, registered a case against an unidentified cash van driver. The deceased worked with a vegetable vendor. The investigation officer, ASI Kewal Singh, said the body would be kept in the mortuary of the local Civil Hospital for 72 hours for identification.
