Chandigarh, February 8
Members of the coordination committee of the government, MC employees and CCET Employees’ Union staged a protest demanding reinstatement of five assistant professors terminated earlier at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) in Sector 26 here today.
Rakesh Kumar, convener of the committee, said despite the direction of the UT Adviser, the principal of the college was not implementing the orders. Kumar added that the employees would start a chain hunger strike from February 16.
The committee earlier deferred the agitation after the assurance of the principal to reinstate the five assistant professors terminated earlier till February 3.
Vikramjeet Pawar, president, CCET Employees’ Union, said 20 temporary contingency posts were also approved by the UT Administration for adjustment purpose. “However, no adjustment has been done by the college authorities,” he said.
A delegation of the union also met Inderjeet Sukhija, joint secretary to Governor, to hand over a representation regarding the issue. The members were assured of a meeting with the UT Administrator.
