The Centre has approved the projects to widen two major highways in Ambala, Yamunanagar and Kaithal districts.

Ambala MP Rattan Lal Kataria and local legislator Nayab Singh Saini said today Rs902 crore had been sanctioned for four-laning the Panchkula-Yamunanagar NH-73 and Rs1,100 crore for four-laning the Ambala-Kaithal NH-65.

“The work on the two projects is expected to commence soon. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will be laying the foundation stone of the projects at Saha on July 20 in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar,” the MP said.

He further said Centre had earmarked Rs6 lakh crore to relay or widen national highways in the country and, under this plan, the NH-73 and NH-65 that passed through Ambala were being four-laned. “The Centre has approved road projects worth Rs3,136 crore for the northern part of the state which was neglected during the previous government.”

To a query, Kataria said a long-pending project of laying a railway line between Yamunanagar and Panchkula was under consideration and efforts were being made for the release of funds in the next Railway Budget.

“Another project to connect Kalka with Kalesar in Yamunanagar is also being worked out to provide better connectivity to the people of the region,” he said, adding the BJP government would undo the discrimination the region faced during the rule of the previous Congress government.
