Dehradun, April 5
State Congress president Kishore Upadhyay today said the absence of an elected government in the state could affect Char Dham yatra preparations.
Upadhyay, while addressing mediapersons here, said people in Garhwal hills, who are dependent on the Char Dham yatra for their livelihood, were apprehensive about its success in the absence of an elected government in the state.
Upadhyay said he had written to Governor KK Paul and informed him about the apprehensions of the people, whose livelihood was linked to the yatra.
He said the onus of conducting the Char Dham yatra was on the Central Government. The funds announced by Narendra Modi government for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected villages were yet to be received, Upadhayay added.
Upadhyay said the Congress would stage processions at various places of Uttarakhand that were related to state agitation martyrs, freedom fighters and eminent personalities like Gaura Devi and Sumitra Nandan Pant.
He said already 500 such places had been identified for the purpose. Uttarakhand Congress spokesman Mathura Dutt Joshi was also present at the newsconference.
