Dehradun, March 15
Children came to Raj Bhawan this morning to shower flowers and spread the message of peace, happiness and prosperity on the occasion of ‘Phool Dei’.
Governor KK Paul welcomed the children and thanked them after giving rice and sweets.
The Governor, while speaking on the occasion, said the phool dei was a unique festival of Uttarakhand and like all our festivals, protected our culture. Festivals in India, he said, were linked to the seasons and conveyed to the new generations the message which our festivals and traditions carry.
The folk festival of phool dei is celebrated in Uttarakhand at the beginning of the month of Chaitra and gives the message of cherishing and protecting nature. Children play an important role in this festival and get familiarised with it from their childhood.
The Governor expressed thanks and congratulated Shashi Bhushan Maithani and “Rangoli Andolan” (organisers of today’s programme) for the efforts being made to keep alive the folk traditions of the state.
Meanwhile, children also went to the residence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat where they were welcomed by him and his wife Renuka Rawat. They were given rice, jiggery and sweets as per the tradition. Asha Manorama Sharma, Uttarakhand Congress vice-president was also present on the occasion.
