Mussoorie, January 17
The pulse polio campaign was carried out with renewed vigour on Polio Sunday where children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered polio vaccine despite bitter cold condition across the Garhwal region, today.
At Mussoorie, the Rotary Club of Mussoorie continued the support to the pulse polio campaign as their volunteers stood at the allotted booths and helped the medical workers in administering the polio vaccine at Mussoorie.
Sanjay Agarwal, president, Rotary Club of Mussoorie, said it was indeed a great moment that the World Health Organisation had declared India as polio-free nation. He said considering the success of the campaign, the Rotary Club has decided to support the polio campaign programme so that no new cases emerge in India again. He said the commitment of the Rotarians from Mussoorie can be seen from the fact that they arrived at the booths early in the morning to help the other medical staff present here.
At Uttarkashi, Additional District Magistrate Ashok Kumar Pandey started the pulse polio campaign by administering the polio vaccine to a child early morning, near the District Government Hospital, today. He
appeals to all volunteers to ensure that every child receives the polio vaccine and if some children are left out today then they should be administered the vaccine on January 18 and 19 through door-to-door
campaign in the district.
Uttarkashi Chief Medical Officer Dr (Major) Bachan Singh Rawat said 340 booths, four transit teams and mobile teams were involved in the campaign.
He said around 20 vehicles from the Health Department along with other government departments were roped in, including Asha, Aanganbadi workers and other volunteer organisations to make the campaign a success.
The target for the pulse polio vaccination was kept at 43,142 kids for the day in the district, said Dr Rawat. At Mussoorie, around 300 children were administered polio vaccine until the filing of the report.
Meanwhile, Dehradun District Magistrate started the pulse polio campaign by administering polio drops to children at a function in Dehradun today.
