City-based gynaecologist honoured

Senior gynaecologist and a renowned infertility and IVF specialist Dr Iqbal Singh Ahuja was honoured with Social Accomplishments Award for his work in infertility and IVF by His Holiness Dalai Lama at his official residence in McLeodganj recently.
Dr Iqbal Singh is a popular gynaecologist of the city and has the honour of being the first gynaecologist from the city who performed successful IVF and delivered the first test tube baby in Punjab.
He was also given the state award by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He has a given a ray of hope to several infertile couples.
Dr Iqbal, who is an alumni of Christian Medical College, runs his own private hospital now.
He said constant upgrade, research and dedication was needed in the field of IVF and female infertility as even today the success rate in this was far too low.
He said he was thankful to His Holiness Dalai Lama, considered a universal symbol of peace and harmony in this world, for honouring him with this award.
