Ropar, July 6
Four persons were reportedly injured in a clash between employees of a contractor and union members at Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant today. The injured, identified as Jagtar Singh, Gurjant Singh, Simranjit Singh Sodhi and Sher Bahadur, were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
Jagtar Singh alleged that he along with Gurjant and Sodhi was sitting in the office of contractor Rajinder Singh at the plant when a mob of over 100 persons led by Contract Karamchari Union president Harmmesh Singh Dhiman attacked them.
Jagtar said he was the project manager at main unit of thermal plant and looked after issues related to contract workers in the absence of contractor Rajinder Singh. Dhiman instigated the workers to attack them as he had terminated the services of two workers who had attained the age of 62, he alleged.
Dhiman, however, denied his role in the attack. He claimed Jagtar had asked two employees to leave the job and the contractual workers were agitated over it.
He alleged when he along with the aggrieved workers went to the office of the contractor, the latter’s employees, including Jagtar, attacked them and injured their colleague Sher Bahadur.
VK Garg, chief engineer, Ropar thermal plant, said the police had been informed about the incident. Further investigations were on, he added.
