Noted classical singer Pt Chhannulal Mishra (Padma Bhushan) of Kirana Gharana and Jagar-exponent Basanti Bisht left the audience enthraled with their religious songs at a cultural programme, Ardh Kumbh, at the Pantdeep Cultural Hall here yesterday.
He said, “To make classical music more popular, artistes should ensure that slow elaboration of ragas should not be stretched for a long time as it creates dullness in music. In today’s fast paced era amid gadgets’ availability, the patience of audience shouldn’t be tested,” said 78-year-old Mishra, who sang a song in Prakash Jha-directed Bollywood movie ‘Aarakshan’.
Traditional folk songs and Jagar recitation by veteran Basanti Bisht gave pilgrims and tourists a glimpse of the local culture. Folk singer Maya Upadhyay and city-based Gulab Rai group also gave performances.
