CM opens stadium at Kunihar

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said people of Himachal were gentle and hardworking and they should be aware of conspirators as development could be brought about only with united efforts.

He was addressing a public meeting at the Kunihar valley today after inaugurating a stadium. Earlier, he paid floral tributes to Hari Dass Thakur, a former minister, on his 33rd death anniversary. He also unveiled the statue of the late Maharaja Padam Singh, the erstwhile ruler of Bushahr estate.

Later, addressing a public meeting, he announced a sub-tehsil for Kunihar and Primary Health Centre (PHC) for Ghunagughat and Manju. He said Rs 67 crore would be spent on various works in Arki and directed departments to accomplish the work by March-end.

He said Himachal was among the most developed states. Initially, the road length in the state was 283 kms, but today the road length was around 37,000 kms. The state had 100 per cent electrification.

In the education sector, 1,329 schools had been opened or upgraded and 42 degree colleges been opened in the rural and far-flung areas during the last four years, taking the total strength of colleges to 116. This had benefited, especially the girls residing in the far-flung areas.

He said it would be unfair if they didn’t remember the stalwarts who were the messiah of development. He said no nation could progress by ignoring its past, rather they could progress by learning lessons from the past. He said leaders had started dividing the people on the basis of religion nowadays, and they spoke of Hindutva which was not right as India was a secular state.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the additional block of GSSS constructed with an outlay of Rs 34 lakh.

Social Justice and Welfare Minister DR Shandil, MLA, Doon, Ramkumar Chawdhary and state Youth Congress president Vikramaditya Singh were among those present on the occasion.

Later in the evening, the CM announced the opening of a Government Degree College at Ramshehar in the Nalagarh constituency. He was at Nalagarh this evening from where he will leave for Punjab to campaign for the Congress candidates in the polls.
