Badal, February 3
Harbans Kaur Dhillon (94), the Badal clan’s oldest member and ‘chachi’ (aunt) of five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal (89), is confident of his victory. She is the wife of former MP late Gurraj Singh Badal, younger brother of the CM’s father, Raghuraj Singh.
In a chat with The Tribune today at her residence, adjacent to the Badals’ old house, Harbans said, “Kyu nahi jittuga? Koi muqabla nahi kise naal. Enne kamm karaye ne vikas de. School bana ditte, college bana ditte, sadkan, galiyan pakkiyan karaaiyan, pinda da vikas karaya. Lok bhulde nahi eh saare kamm. Kise hor ne kush nahi karauna (Why will he not win? He has no competition with anyone. He has done a number of development works in the area. People will not forget all these works).”
She proudly says, “Though I stay mostly in Chandigarh, I cast my vote in every election here. I am not just the oldest member in the family, but also in the village.”
About whether she intervened to reunite the Badal brothers (Parkash and Gurdas), she says, “Nobody listens to anyone these days. Das and Manpreet have chosen to support the Congress. I can’t do anything about it.”
Her grandson, Amarvir Singh ‘Bawa’, son of CM’s cousin Major Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, says, “Biji prays daily to Waheguru for Badal Sahib’s victory.”
