Coast Guard should protect flora, fauna: FRI

Forest Research Institute’s Officiating Director Dr Neelu Gera has expressed concern over the challenge of coastal pollution.

Dr Gera was addressing the training programme meant for the commandants of Indian Coast Guard at the Forest Research Institute today. She said coast guards had a responsibility towards addressing the challenge of coastal pollution. She said coast guards should work towards protecting endangered flora and fauna of the country’s seas. She, however, appreciated the role of Coast Guard who were protecting sea frontiers of the nation.

FRI scientist VK Dhawan said the aim of the training was to sensitise officers of Coast Guard with the marine ecosystems and marine protected areas and their management in the country.

A total of 12 commandants from the Indian Coast Guards are participating in the training programme.
