‘Complete’ list of flood relief

Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Asgar Hassan Samoon on Tuesday asked the Deputy Commissioners concerned to complete the final list of flood-relief cases, including the remaining cases, at the earliest so the relief amount could be disbursed, an official spokesman said in a statement. The Divisional Commissioner issued the direction while chairing a meeting of Deputy Commissioners via video-conferencing, to review the status of remaining cases of 2014-flood victims. Samoon was informed that few cases were pending in Budgam, Anantnag, Srinagar, Bandipore, Baramulla, Kulgam and Shopian, the spokesman said.
2 more nursing colleges
Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar on Tuesday announced that the government was mulling to start two nursing colleges, one each in Srinagar and Jammu, next year. The minister said this during a function at a college in Srinagar. “The government will start nursing colleges in Government College for Women, MA Road, and Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, next year,” he said. Referring to nursing as a noble profession, the minister said by 2020, there would be an acute shortage of nurses across the globe.
Board to promote sports
The Ghani Gliders Sports Club has formed an 11-member board to promote sporting activities and hone skills of the local talent. “The club has framed 11-member board for selection of players and organising tournaments and activities. Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya will be the borad’s chairman and Zahoor Ahmad Tramboo will be the vice- chairman. We are soon launching the JK Premier League of Clans (JKPLC) to bring forth hidden talent from each and every part of the state. This league will be a platform for talented youth and we hope to muster good support for the event,” said Tariq Rashid Ghani, head of the Ghani Gliders Sports Club, at Munwarabad here.
College observes Iqbal Day
A seminar was conducted at Government Degree College, Shopian, to observe Allama Iqbal Day, in which nearly 15 students participated, the officials said. The works of the poet were highlighted and students were encouraged to draw inspiration from Iqbal’s poetry, said a college official.

Woman, child electrocuted
A woman (37) and her three-year-old son were electrocuted in Voi-Bamdoora village of the Kokernag area in Anantnag district on Tuesday. According to the police reports, Kausar Jan was cooking at her home when the incident happened. “She was cooking using an electric heater and simultaneously, it seemed, was breastfeeding her son,” a senior police official said. Her son clutched the heater killing both of them, he added. The official said while the mother died on the spot, the boy succumbed on the way to hospital.
