Computer teachers gherao Shiksha Sadan in P’kula

Demanding renewal of their contracts that ended on May 31, school computer teachers today marched to Shiksha Sadan in Sector 5 here and gheraoed it. They squatted outside the building till 8 pm. They left only after the administration assured them of arranging their meeting with the Chief Minister.

Surrounded by the police and administrative officers, the protesters raised slogans against the government and the Education Department.

During the around five-hour protest, health of one of the protesting women deteriorated and she had to be admitted to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6.

The protest began at around 3 pm when the protesters marched to the Sadan raising slogans. Heavy police force was deployed to thwart any untoward incident. The cops had barricaded the Sadan complex to prevent the protesters’ entry. — TNS
