On the invitation of Dr Shahzad Anwar, chairman of Pakistan Acupuncture Council, a five-member delegation led by Dr Inderjit Singh Dhingra, president of the Acupuncture Science Association of India, and Director of Dr Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital and Medical College, attended the 2nd International Conference on Acupuncture and Regenerative Medicine at Lahore (Pakistan) from April 24 to 29. Other members of the delegation were Dr RK Tuli from the department of Holistic Medicine, Apollo Hospital, New Delhi; Dr Poonam and Dr Malika from Delhi and Dr Sukhwinder from Amritsar. The Indian acupuncture experts presented their research papers on Acupuncture Therapy for Mental Retardation in Children (Dr Inderjit Singh), Role of Acupuncture in Emergency and Acute Medicine (Dr Tuli), Acupuncture Treatment for Facial Paralysis (Dr Sukhwinder Singh), Acupuncture Treatment for Female Diseases (Dr Poonam ) and Acupuncture Treatment for Psychological Diseases (Dr Malika).

Artificial limbs distributed

A free artificial limbs distribution camp was organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad in association with Sidhi Vinayak Temple Trust, Four Star Club and Jai Jagdambay Sewa Dal. Artificial limbs, calipers, tricycles, wheel chairs and hearing aids were distributed among 50 physically challenged persons at the camp. Chief guest Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Congress legislator, lauded the initiative of the parishad in extending a helping hand to the physically challenged persons.

Ayurvedic oil relaunched

BN Sharma Products Company held a meeting with wholesalers of the city and distributors of Punjab. The occasion also marked the re-launching ceremony of “Banphool Green Oil”, high quality ayurvedic oil with natural herbs, approved by the Supreme Court of India. Bishwanath Sharma, chairperson of the company, said it was the first ayurvedic oil in India since 1982 with guaranteed satisfaction. “We are re-launching it with enhanced quality,” he said. Director Sanjay Sharma said it was widely accepted as a multi-purpose oil of exceptional quality and immense potentiality.

Super Mom Season-II

Puja Khanna won the Super Mom Season-II grand finale held at Kings Spread Resort, Dugri. Neelam Kholi, president, ladies wing of the Akali Dal, was the chief guest on the occasion. A totalof 24 participants walked on the ramp wearing western dresses designed by Meetu Khosla.

CME on asthma

A CME on the theme of the year ‘asthma can be controlled’ was held by Ludhiana branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to observe World Asthma Day. Dr Saranjeet Singh Bhullar, a known chest physician from Bathinda, explained in detail about various aspects of treatment of asthma and emphasising that smoking could trigger asthma attacks. A panel comprising city-based renowned chest physician Dr Jagdeep Whig, Dr Pardeep Kapoor and Dr Gurpreet Singh initiated an interactive session on treatment and management of asthma and the risk factors. More than 100 doctors from the city and surrounding areas attended the CME. IMA president Dr Kulwant Singh informed that the DMC-IMA branch had merged with the IMA and 30 doctors from the DMC had joined the association.

Protest march

Phillaur: Residents of nearby Muthadda Kalan village led by sarpanch Kanti Mohan took out a protest march in Phillaurto protest against the inaction of the police to arrest the culprits responsible for the firing incident that took place on April 18. The protesters alleged that the culprits were being supported by the politicians of the ruling party. The protest march was supported by Bahujan Samaj Party, CPI, Dehati Mazdoor Sabha and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Naujawan Sabha etc.
