The Congress led, United panel, wins 12 out of 20 seats for the AS Trust (Anglo Sanskrit Trust) and Management Society elections while the BJP led, Progressive panel, could win only eight seats.
The elections were held on Sunday and the results were declared last late night. Vikas Mehta, a close aide of Khanna MLA, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, topped the list by winning 3,408 votes.
Another contender from the Congress, Vijay Sharma, lost by just one vote. There were a total of 5,684 votes out of which 4,869 were polled.
There were 10 rounds in all, out of which 500 vote per round were counted in nine rounds, while 369 votes were counted in last round. The elected members apart from Vikas Mehta include Rajeev Rai Mehta, Shaminder Singh Mantu, Rajesh Kumar Dalli, Tejinder Sharma, Ajay Sood, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Sushil Kumar Sheela, Jatinder Devgan, Karan Arora, Navdeep Sharma, Naveen Thaman, Sanjeev Dhamija, Sudarshan Verma Pappi, Baldev Krishan Batra, Paramjit Singh, Rajneesh Bedi, Raj Kumar Sahnewalia, Madan Lal Sharma and Jaspal Lotey.
There were a total of 42 candidates including 20 from the Congress, 18 from the BJP and four independents. In the last election, the Congress and the BJP had won 10 seats each while this time Congress had secured majority in the 20 member’s house.
