Consumers, dealers complain of LPG shortage in Valley

Several consumers and dealers today complained of facing problems due to shortage of Indane LPG cylinders in the markets.
“Even though HP gas cylinders are available in abundance, consumers having Indane connections are not easily getting LPG refills. For the past few days, whenever I approached the local Indane dealer, I was told that they are facing a shortage,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a resident of Rawalpora.
He said it was ‘strange’ that a problem of this sort had come up during summer time even as complaints of LPG shortage were usually received during the winter months in the Valley.
Abdul Ahad of Paradise Gas said they were not receiving a sufficient quota of Indane LPG cylinders from the company due to which consumers were facing issues.
“By the middle of a month, I would usually receive a supply of around 4,500 Indane cylinders. However, this month I have only received 1,200 cylinders. The problem has risen due to some transport issues due to which not many vehicles carrying Indane cylinders are entering the Valley,” he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Gas Dealers Association (JKGDA) general secretary Jagmohan Singh Raina, who runs Kashmir Gas Agency that distributes LPG from Indane, too said there was a shortage of supply.
“Yes, there is a shortage of supply due to which Indane LPG consumers are facing problems. We are currently receiving around 70 per cent less supply than usual due to the shortage of transport,” Raina said.
Senior area manager, Indane, MK Sinha, who is based in Jammu, said he would look into the matter and ensure that the Valley received enough LPG supply from the company. He said the problem might have arisen due to frequent highway disturbances in the past.
