Ankur Singh Patar, a well known digital illustrator from the city is a thoughtful artist, who illustrates life, culture, tradition, folk and art of Punjab in his illustrations. Ankur Patar is a well established professional artist in Australia but his work for his beloved Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat keeps him in touch with art lovers of the region. Interestingly, Ankur Patar started drawing images on walls of his newly constructed house during childhood days.

“The cemented walls of my house, which were yet to whitewashed, were my first canvas. I have drawn several pictures on walls during 80s. My mother used to scold me but my father (Surjit Patar, renowned poet) always encouraged and gave me a freehand. During my school days, my drawing was good than average but I didn’t have much time and platform to do something in this regard,” said Ankur.

“In 2003, I started working on Photoshop and made several paintings. I have joined web portal “Santa-Banta” and started making wallpapers. Soon after, company promoted me as creative head. Meanwhile, I have made digital paintings of Gurmukhi letters. That project got over welcoming response and people appreciated all over.”

Ankur Patar is one of those artists who introduced the digital painting/illustration in Punjab. He started working on abstract art and depicted the culture, life and folk of the Punjab.

He made digital paintings on separate themes of rural life. Harp Farmer, an artist worked as model for him. His paintings ‘Sikh’, ‘Folk Music of Punjab’, ‘We are the worriers’ got very good response. Ankur is settled in Australia and owns a company ‘Creative Imaginaries’, in Brisbane. Patar recently worked for University of Queensland and made three images for the university.

“It was very challengeable and complex work to draw painting on various aspects of University. But we got good feedback”, said Patar. Ankur is now in Punjab and exploring the Sikh art of medieval period.
