Cricket Association of Haridwar general secretary Inder Mohan Barthwal shed light on Dalmiya’s role in making BCCI financially stronger and the successful hosting of twin World Cups jointly by India and Pakistan in the late 80’s and 90’s.

Inder Mohan pointed out that in 1987, Reliance World Cup was the first one which was held outside England and questions were raised by foreign cricket boards and media about India’s capability to host a premier cricket tournament.

“Dalmiya’s able administratorship and cricketing acumen led to successful hosting of the Reliance World Cup in 1987 and later, Wills World Cup in 1996. He played a stellar role in making BCCI the richest and the strongest cricketing body in the whole world. Even his role in resurrecting domestic leagues such as Ranji, Duleep, Irani, Deodhar and U-19 tournaments was laudable as he ensured domestic cricketers and coaching staff too get sufficient pay and allowances,” said Barthwal, a senior cricketing coach.

Among others who paid tributes were president of CAH Neeraj Kumar, MP Sharma, Pavinder Singh, Pradeep Sharma, Kaushal Sharma, Vikas Goyal, Sanjeev Gupta, Kuldeep Aswal, Chandra Mohan, Praveen Giri, Shamsher Bahadur, Uday Ram Semwal, Lalit Mamgain, Kamal Pant, Kamal Chamoli and Lalit Sachdeva.
