Palampur, October 27
The Dah Division today celebrated the 69th Infantry Day. A wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the Dah War Memorial in Palampur.
The General Officer Commanding, Dah Division, senior officers, veterans, serving officers, soldiers and schoolchildren were present.
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of those who sacrificed their lives. It was on this day in 1947 that an Infantry Company of the First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals who were supported by Pakistan Army.
The day is observed to commemorate the unparalleled saga of grit and valour of all infantry men serving the nation. Infantry, the prime arm of the Indian Army, is replete with the glorious history of warfare over centuries.
It has brought laurels to the nation in all the four wars that India fought in 1962, 1965, 1971, 999 and Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka.
