Jammu, October 12
Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today released “actual pictures” of the truck damaged on Friday night to expose a misinformation campaign launched with publication and circulation of a “misleading picture” of a burning truck.
He appealed to the media to make a correct representation of facts and verify details from the district administration. “It has been observed that photographs of some burning trucks have been inadvertently represented in a section of the media, presenting it as a truck burnt in Udhampur. Actual pictures of the truck so damaged are sent for clarification,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
On the night of October 9, some miscreants hurled a bottle containing some “combustible material” on a Kashmir-based truck, leading to burn injuries to three persons. Valley based newspapers and users of social networking sites had published and circulated a fake picture of a truck on fire.
The attack took place in the darkness of the night, but Valley based media organisations published a picture of a burning truck taken in broad daylight. This forced the district administration to release actual pictures of the truck damaged in the incident.
