A joint meeting of Sikh organisations was held yesterday at Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singh, Gandhi Nagar.

The meeting was held to discuss the arrangements to observe the death anniversary of Akali Kaur Singh Nihang which is going to be held on January 29 at the gurdwara.

The meeting was called by the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC). While briefing the media, Avtar Singh Khalsa, general secretary, DGPC, Jammu, said the anniversary of Akali Kaur Singh would be a joint event of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar, the DGPC, the State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, J&K, and all gurdwara parbandhak committees of J&K.

He said Akali Kaur Singh Nihang (1886-1953) was a religious preacher and a Sikh scholar. He was the son of Maha Singh and Karam Kaur of Paddhar village, Chakar, Muzaffarabad, in Pakistan. — TNS
