Garbage being dumped openly on the Dehlon road in Sahnewal is becoming an eye sore for residents, passersby and commuters. Residents alleged that the dumping of garbage was being ignored by the Municipal Council.

“We are tolerating it for last several months. As the heap grows bigger, our problems also multiply. The open garbage heap allows stray dogs to loiter and create nuisance for commuters,” rued Manjit Singh of Jugiana village.

Harbans Singh Sains, a social worker and member of Young Citizens Association, rued, “This road is one of the busiest roads. Now as the flyover of Sahnewal has been thrown open, the entire traffic prefers to take Dehlon road and the garbage heap is a blot on the town.”

“If the company is not working efficiently then Nagar Council is responsible for the nuisance,” alleges Rajiv , a resident.

Nagar Council president Kulwant Singh Kanti said, “The A to Z Company has been directed to lift garbage. As more garbage is being dumped , the heap gets bigger. I will ask them to lift it twice a day so that the problem can be solved.”
