Dehradun, June 24
The survey for the proposed Dehradun-Rishikesh-Haridwar metro line is likely to start soon as Chief Minister Harish Rawat has accorded the top priority to the project to ease increased traffic pressure on roads of these cities.
The Chief Minister, underlining the need for developing alternative modes of transport in the three cities, directed the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority and the Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority to conduct a survey of the Dehradun-Rishikesh-Haridwar metro line project at the earliest, a press note said.
He asked them to treat the project as the top priority. He said once the survey work was over, the departments concerned should coordinate with each other and prepare a detailed project report in consultation with the National Highways Authority of India, it said.
The Chief Minister told the officials to explore the possibility of developing towns based on the concept of smart cities in the hill areas, besides developing suburban towns around fast developing ones such as Nainital, Almora and Pauri.— PTI
