Srinagar, June 15
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Basharat Bukhari today said the government had approved a comprehensive state disaster management plan to deal with natural calamities in the state.
Responding to a question in the Legislative Council, the Minister said the plan formulated by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences was a big step towards a safe and disaster resilient state and would serve as a primary document providing guidelines to stakeholders to be in a state of preparedness and prevent disasters, besides improving resilience and response to them.
“The government has also constituted a State Disaster Management Authority, State Executive Committee and the District Disaster Management Authorities in pursuance to the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Currently, the police control rooms at the divisional and district levels are playing an important role in emergency response during disasters,” he said in a response to the query of MLC Ajat Shatru Singh.
The Minister said the government had decided to constitute two fully equipped Emergency Operation Centers at Srinagar and Jammu.
