DMC to seal property of tax defaulters

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation has decided to seal commercial and residential properties of those failing to pay house tax by March 31. The DMC has achieved only 48 per cent of the target so far. Officials were have been directed to expedite the tax collection as the financial year is about to end.
Sources confirmed the necessary exercise was on to draft the list of big defaulters. The figures compiled by the DMC reveals that only Rs 7 crore has been collected against the target (Rs 15 crore). A penalty of 25 per cent would be imposed on defaulters. Mayor Vinod Chamoli said tax inspectors were strictly instructed to draft the list of big defaulters. If they fail to pay tax after the stipulated time their properties would be sealed, he added. — TNS
