Head of Namdhari sect Thakur Uday Singh today told his followers not to vote for the party that was involved in selling “chitta” (drugs) and support those who ensure the safety of women and children.

Uday Singh said this while addressing the gathering here during the bhog of Namdhari matriarch Chand Kaur, who was shot dead near Satguru Partap Singh Academy here on April 4.

He said, "The elections are round the corner and people who are involved in drug trafficking are approaching the parties for tickets. The parties should not nominate such people and if they do, don't vote the party to power."

Though most speakers recounted the social work done by late Chand Kaur and paid tributes to her, the “deteriorating” law and order issue remained the main topic.

HS Hanspal, president, Vishav Namdhari Sangat, announced a cash reward of Rs20 lakh for providing information about the killers. He said even the earlier incidents of attacks on Namdharis remained unsolved.

AAP leaders Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Sanjay Singh and Bhagwant Mann attended the bhog. Chhotepur alleged that the incident had once again exposed the poor law and order situation in the state.

Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi and Sadhu Singh Dharamsot flayed the killing and termed it a cowardly act. Channi alleged the formation of a SIT to probe the case was an eyewash.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal assured action in the case. Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said the Chief Minister and his deputy were shocked at the incident and had directed the police to nab the killers at the earliest.
