Dr Jagat Ram’s elevation hailed

“Simple living and high thinking’’ aptly portrays the personality of Dr Jagat Ram, the new Director of North India’s premier health institute PGI, Chandigarh. This is what his old associates at Patadia (his native village) in Rajgarh sub-division of Sirmaur district say.

Born in an agrarian family on October 17, 1956, Dr Jagat Ram completed his schooling from the local primary school and completed his matriculation from Government High School, Rajgarh. He prepared for medical test in Solan and made it to the IGMC, Shimla.

His classmate Lalit Kishore Sharma said: “Dr Jagat Ram always stood first in class. He always wanted to be a doctor. His hard work and perseverance have paid off.”

He has brought laurels to Himachal and also to his district which is otherwise considered a backward area of the state. Dr Jagat Ram is a known eye surgeon who has earned prestigious international awards for excelling in the field of eye surgery.

He gave the credit of his success to his parents who he said toiled hard for his success despite adverse circumstances. He said earlier there were limited means of earning livelihood and they were dependent on agriculture which fetched meagre income.
