Dr Savita first woman Director of FRI

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has appointed Dr Savita as the full-time Director of the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
Savita is an officer of the Indian Forest Service of the 1985 batch belonging to the Himachal Pradesh cadre. She joined as Deputy Director General (Education) of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun, in October 2015.
Though Savita has been holding the additional charge of the Director, FRI, since June 3, 2015, on repatriation of the earlier Director to his state cadre, she joined as the regular incumbent today.
She holds an M.Sc. degree in botany and forestry, Masters Diploma in Public Administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration, M.Phil in rural development from Panjab University, Chandigarh, MBA from the University of Western, Sydney, and PhD in ‘Governance Issues in Forest Management’ from the Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University, Dehradun.
Savita is the first woman Director of the institute. In fact, she was also the first woman Deputy Director General in the 25 years of the history of the Indian Council Forest Research and Education.
