Dr Vikram Singh has been elected national joint secretary of the Students Federation of India (SFI) at the 15th all-India convention held at Sikar from January 22 to 25.
Disclosing this here today, SFI state secretary Suresh Sarwal said the convention also decided to intensify the agitation for qualitative improvement in education.
Addressing mediapersons, he said it was for the first time that the national secretary had been elected from a small state like Himachal which was a matter of pride for the student community.
Dr Vikram was the president of the Students Central Association (SCA) of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and did Doctorate in Zoology.
Sarwal said the SFI would intensify the agitation against privatisation, commercialisation and communalisation of education and also oppose implementation of RUSA in postgraduate courses.
The SFI also opposed the move to bring foreign direct investment in education and the recruitment of RSS favourites in reputed educational institutions. The state unit of the SFI would also launch an agitation against recruitment of teachers through back door in the HPU, he added.
