Now getting a driving licence will cost more as the Chandigarh Administration has started the process to adopt the notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport in this regard. Residents will also be charged for undertaking the driving test.
The ministry has increased the fee for a driving licence with an aim to make it uniform all over the nation. The notification has increased the fee for a driving licence up to Rs 200 and adding another class of vehicle to existing licence from 250 to 500 .
As per the notification, those who fail to renew their licence in time will have to pay Rs 300 and an additional fee of Rs 1,000 for the delay of each year. Charges have also been increased for the delay in the submission of an NOC for the change of ownership. The fee for a fitness certificate has also been increased.
Those who fail to get their fitness certificates in time will have to shell an additional fee besides the normal charges for the driving test. Presently, residents are paying Rs 60 for a learner’s licence for a single class of vehicle and
Rs 30 additional fee for an extra class of vehicle. For a regular licence, charges are Rs 250 for a single class of vehicle and Rs 50 for additional fee per extra class of vehicle.
But after the adoption of the notification, the residents will have to pay Rs 150 for a learner’s licence for one category of vehicles and will also be charged Rs 50 for the driving test. If they fail in the test, then they will have to pay Rs 50 for each test consequently.
Likewise, rates for an international driving licence will also be increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. The charges for the renewal of a licence will also be increased from Rs 250 to Rs 500.
Rakesh Kumar Popli, RLA, confirmed that the proposal for the implementation of the notification issued by the ministry had been sent for the approval to the higher authorities. He said the new charges would be implemented once the proposal got the approval.
No driving test on Monday
No driving test will be conducted on January 16 at Children Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh. An officer of the RLA said the decision had been taken as the closing ceremony of the 28th National Road Safety Week-2017 was being organised there on Monday.
