The Haryana Government has issued directions to all deputy commissioners of the state to ensure that banks issue tokens to customers and make arrangements of drinking water for them.
Sources said the government had issued the said directions on November 13. Chief Secretary DS Dhesi today again issued the directions in this regard.
“You were directed to issue tokens to customers for distribution/exchange of cash for demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. It has come to notice that banks are not following these instructions. The Chief Minister has directed that the token system be enforced strictly,” stated the Chief Secretary’s direction to DCs.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia, accompanied by ADC Dr Shaleen and other officials of the local administration, today conducted a surprise check at seven branches and ATMs of nationalised and private banks.
The DC found that tokens were not available at the branches of Punjab National Bank near Gaba Hospital, State Bank of India, Model Town near Bikano, and UCO Bank near Pyara chowk. He also found that ATMs of Punjab National Bank near Gaba Hospital, SBI, Model Town, near Bikano, HDFC, ITI chowk, and HDFC, Vishnu Nagar, were closed.
Phulia said he had today further issued directions to branch managers of all banks that they must issue tokens to customers and make arrangement of drinking water. He also directed that ATMs should not be made non-functional.
He also conducted a surprise inspection at DAV Girls’ College here and asked its authorities to also accept cheques for students’ fees.
